What should I choose as my daily occupation?
By nature human is always seeking for happiness (Ānanda-mayo 'bhyāsāt [Vedānta-sūtra 1.1.12]. So, the occupation/duties that I chose should lead me to the ultimate happiness. Otherwise, why should I do that occupation? That happiness should be a permanent one, not a temporary one (like pleasure in eating food, weekend trips, etc.). Everyone has to do work for their livelihood. So why not work for something that gives me forever happiness instead of doing something that brings anxiety, stress, and fear.
Do's
- My occupational engagements should be for ultimate liberation [SB.1.2.9].
- The ultimate end must be seeking the Absolute Truth [SB.1.2.10].
- Realize that Absolute Truth in full by rendering devotional service to Lord Vasudeva [SB.1.2.12]
Dont's
- It should not be for material gain [SB.1.2.9].
- I should never use material gain for sense gratification [SB.1.2.9]. I can desire a healthy life for self-preservation [SB.1.2.10].
How
- Hear and follow the instructions of a person Bhagavata (Srila Prabhupada) [SB.1.2.12]
- I should have firm faith that by rendering transcendental loving service to Kṛṣṇa, one automatically performs all subsidiary activities (satisfied his forefathers, ordinary living entities, and demigods)[Cc. Madhya 22.62]. So no need to perform demigod or forefather worship.
Result
- Complete happiness [SB.1.2.19].
- full knowledge of Absolute truth [SB.1.2.12]
- detachment from material association [SB.1.2.12]
